By Chika OnyesiSenator Ahmed Lawan has emerged the President of the 9th Senate of the federal republic of Nigeria.
The lawmaker representing Yobe North senatorial district defeated his opponent Senator Ali Ndume with 79 votes.
Ali Ndume who represents Borno South senatorial district polled only 28 votes.
Senator Lawan has now been sworn in as the Senate president by the clerk of the National Assembly.
About 107 senators cast their votes in the election that produced Ahmed Lawan
