A new strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus also known as COVID 19 has hit Nigeria
The new variant, already active in Europe is identified as UK B117
Revealing this in Abuja at a briefing, the PTF Chairman, Boss Mustapha said, cases of the B117 variant were discovered in travellers, in and out of the country.
”There have been reports of cases with cases with the B117 variant strain, first reported in the UK, found in Nigeria, three of these were in travellers out of Nigeria and one is a resident. “
But despite the steady rise in the number of cases, the federal government has continued to assure of plans to assess the COVAX vaccine.
Mustapha maintained that an initial 100,000 doses of COVAX will arrive by the early weeks of February.
He, however, warned that on arrival the vaccine can only be accessed through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA.
