The Management of the National Examinations Council (NECO) have approved the dismissal of 70 staff from her services for certificate forgery.
According to a statement by the exam body’s Head, of Information and Public Relations Division, Azeez Sani, the dismissals were sequel to a report submitted by a Management Committee constituted to verify the certificate of staff.
Azeez said the Verification Committee had invited all staff with questionable credentials to appear before it, during which some staff attested to submitting fake qualifications to gain employment.
The statement disclosed that the committee had also contacted the schools and Institutions the affected staff claimed to have attended and the Institutions denied having certificated any of the 70 culprits.
On completion of its investigations, the committee submitted its findings to the NECO Management who also forwarded same to the NECO Governing Board.
“The Governing Board after vetting the report during its 17th Extra- ordinary meeting, approved the dismissal of the affected staff” the statement read.
According to Azeez, the exam council under the leadership of the Acting Registrar, Abubakar Gana is poised to sanitise the system as espoused by President Muhammadu Buhari led administration.
The dismissal of the 70 staff is the first phase in the series a series of staff certificate verification exercise embarked on by the National Examinations Council (NECO)
